23Allergens & Food Safety
Last updated: 29 October 2026
If you or anyone you’re feeding has a food allergy or intolerance, please read this page before ordering. We take care to give you the right information, but the label on the product you receive is always the final word.
The 14 major allergens
UK law requires these 14 allergens to be clearly declared when they’re used as ingredients: celery, cereals containing gluten (such as wheat, barley and rye), crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame, soya, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, and tree nuts.
Where our allergen information comes from
We add ingredients and allergen information to each product page using details from the manufacturer, supplier or butcher partner. Manufacturers sometimes change recipes or packaging without telling us straight away, so:
- Always read the label on the item you receive, even if you’ve bought it before.
- If the label doesn’t match what’s on our website, or anything looks unclear, don’t eat it. Contact us.
Fresh meat and butcher products
Plain, raw, unseasoned meat doesn’t normally contain any of the 14 allergens. Marinated meat, burgers, sausages, kebabs, kofta and other prepared products may contain allergens such as mustard, gluten, celery or sulphites. These will be listed on the product page before you buy and on the label when it’s delivered.
May contain / cross-contact
Our products are made and packed by different suppliers, many of whom handle lots of different foods. That means traces of allergens can’t always be ruled out. Where a supplier gives a “may contain” warning, we’ll show it. If there’s no warning, that doesn’t guarantee a product is allergen-free.
If you have an allergy
- Check the product page before ordering.
- Message us on WhatsApp at +44 7566 772585 or email [email protected] if anything isn’t clear.
- Read the label before eating.
- If in doubt, leave it out.
We can’t give medical advice or tell you whether a product is safe for your specific condition. Please speak to your GP or allergy specialist if you need advice.
How we keep your food safe in transit
- Chilled and frozen items travel in insulated boxes or bags with ice packs where needed.
- Raw meat is sealed and kept separate from ready-to-eat food.
- Food is kept apart from household cleaning products, clothing and other non-food items.
When your order arrives
Put chilled and frozen items in the fridge or freezer straight away and follow the use-by date and storage instructions. Please don’t eat a product if its packaging is damaged, leaking or swollen, if a seal is unexpectedly broken, if it doesn’t seem to have stayed cold, or if it’s past its use-by date. Just let us know.
Safe handling at home
- Wash your hands, chopping boards and utensils after handling raw meat.
- Keep raw meat away from cooked and ready-to-eat food.
- Cook meat thoroughly, following the pack instructions.
- Don’t wash raw chicken; splashing spreads bacteria around your kitchen.
- Stick to use-by dates. Smell and appearance aren’t a reliable test.
Product recalls
If a product we’ve sold you is recalled, we’ll contact you using the details on your order and tell you what to do. We’ll give you a refund or replacement in line with the recall and your legal rights.
A note on wording
Nothing on our website means Zadih, our suppliers or our products are approved or endorsed by the Food Standards Agency, unless we say so with written confirmation from them.
